About the Department
UTC Art conceives of material engagement, process, critical thinking, and context as cornerstones of an education in the arts. The depth and substance that insures the development of artistic competencies among our student majors is attested by the success of our graduates in meeting their professional objectives, entering highly competitive graduate schools in the fine arts, and securing professional placement in their respective fields. UTC Art alumni have worked for IDEO, shown in the Whitney Biennial, received MFAs from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, and won Emmys, amongst many other impressive accomplishments.
The UTC Art faculty is noted for teaching excellence, as well as for diverse and accomplished research activities. All of our faculty members are working artists and active researchers in their respective studio fields, in the history of art and architecture, in art education, and in contemporary critical theory. Accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design mandates that our facility is safe, that our faculty is well qualified, that our curriculum meets national standards, and that our operations are sound. It is also indicative of the high quality of our student outcomes, which compare favorably to those at much more prominent institutions throughout the country.
