As a visual artist and educator, I am inspired by painting’s rich history and energized by the expansive possibilities of contemporary painting. My practice is rooted in human interaction and my role as an observer, on the outside looking in. I’m interested in the relationships between figures, the proximity of their bodies, and the spaces in between. In my paintings and drawings, I explore the familiar and the unremarkable through the specificity of portraiture or by presenting more ambiguous situations that encourage an interpretation. In my work, I seek to communicate a sense of isolation or interaction, longing or discomfort.
